How to Rollback WMP11

There are two ways to roll back Windows Media Player 11 to the previously installed version.

A. Add/Remove Program

Remove the following two items at the Add/Remove Program Control Panel.

1. Windows Media Player 11 2. Windows Media Format 11 runtime

Open the Control Panel from Windows’ Start menu, select Add/Remove Program, find Windows Media Player 11 in the list and remove it. Next (after the reboot), find Windows Media Format 11 runtime and remove it too.

B. System Restore

This method is valid only if the restore point made when WMP11 was installed is available.

Launch System Restore from Windows’ Start » All Programs » Accessories » System Tools menu. You will be prompted the list of the restore points in calendar format. Find and select Installed Windows Media Player 11. Then proceed the restore.

IMPORTANT You must do DRM License Initialization right after the restore -- before you launch the player. This is because that the DRM license data generated by WMP11 is not compatible with older players while the System Restore does not make any changes on it. Otherwise, you may have an error message about the DRM license, or the player may be crashed.
